Review: Anthony Hamilton - Comin' from Where I'm From

Anthony Hamilton is a new breed. His crisp vocal style takes you through a Journey of appreciation, love and Life, Family and life challenges.

Tracklist

  1. Mama Knew Love
An expression of the struggles and hustles of motherhood from the eyes of a child. In a larger context it demonstrates the struggle of all women to give their children the best. Anthony with the help of "Jay-z" and a strong treble sets the rhythm for you to bob your head at this expression of love. This joint is truly tight and is more than just a Jam but a story of love.

"Mama knew love like the back roads
Used to fall asleep daily in her work clothes
Mom swear you never have to worry again"

  2. Cornbread, Fish & Collard Greens

  3. Since I Seen't You

  4. Charlene
Probably one of my favorite joints of this album. It's a monologue about his baby girl Charlene (every man's got one right !!!). A man's regret for having taken his only love for granted and apologies that may be too late. I find this song especially true as I have once lost my "Charlene" cuz of the paper chase.

"Woke up this morning found a letter that she wrote
She said she's tired that I'm always on the road
To hard to swallow being alone
She needs someone at night that she can hold
She must have told me a thousand times before
Silent cries I use to ignore
    God knows I love her
Didn't mean to hurt her "

  5. I'm A Mess

  6. Comin' From Where I'm From
This is a story about life and it's struggles, trying to keep things real. The fear that set's in when your past controls your future and keeps you from being what you can be coming from where your from.
"Well, tried to be good (I tried)
Wanted nothing but to love somebody
    Didn't wanna die young
Steady hustlin tryin to feed my family
    Too scared to have kids
    And do like daddy did
Cuz I'm so scared of failin
    Sometimes it gets hard
    Comin from where I'm from"

  7. Better Days

  8. Lucille

  9. Float

  10. My First Love

  11. Chyna Black

  12. I Tried

This Album is one of the best I've listened to. Anthony Hamilton's Crisp, rough Soulful voice comes across as honest and soulful to make a well rounded album of life and love. It is one of the best albums produced under the banner of the SoSo Def Record label.

If you are a fan of urban soul and R&B, this album is a must-have.
